 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Small parking lot at the end of Wood Rd. has room for 5 vehicles, assuming no one disobeys the sign and parks in front of the gate (which someone did today). The access road to the trailhead has some rocks and is quite rutted, but my small FWD vehicle was fine since I took it slow. This access road is also very narrow - two cars cannot pass each other on this road, someone will have to back up. I snagged the last spot just after 9 AM. When I got back, someone was basically waiting there to pull into a spot, so they took mine when I left. Another vehicle was coming in as I was leaving, but they had to back up all the way to Wood Rd because 1) There was no way for me to pass them, and 2) there weren't any parking spots left in the lot anyway. There are lots of mean-spirited No Parking signs along Wood Rd. and Bickford Rd. - if not for those signs, people could probably park along those roads, since they are probably wide enough. |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Most were bridged, and the rest were rock hops. Some are probably not there in drier seasons, but they were still not difficult. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Signage was very good. No blowdowns. Some parts of all the trails were muddy, but this is April - I'd have been surprised if they weren't muddy. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw a couple. One pair of dog owners held their dogs very close as I passed - thank you, I appreciate that! |
|
 | Bugs: |
Saw a few on the Fire Rd. on the way out. |

 | Comments: |
This was a fun and not too difficult hike. East Gilford Trail was mostly dry, and Round Pond Trail had only a few wet spots. Very little snow (and practically none on the trail) below the pond. Mt. Klem and Mt. Mack had roughly 2 inches of snow in most places. Along the trail, it has been thoroughly packed down by boots. It never got too slippery. There are some small icy sections, but they were never too difficult to get around. No traction is necessary.
Views were excellent at the overlooks. I could see Passaconaway, Whiteface, the Sleepers, and Sandwich Dome across Lake Winnipesaukee from the outlook just north of Mt. Klem. Round Pond is beautiful, and it's open water now, no ice.
Saw maybe 12-15 people, but all of them below Round Pond - I didn't see anyone on Klem or Mack. |
