Barebooted Zealand Road all the way to the Hale Brook Trailhead. Snow depths varied from 1"-6" on the road. Put snowshoes on at the Hale Brook Trailhead and wore them the whole way up and back (except for the last mile or so on the roadwalk). Snow depths increased to about 16"-18" as I ascended. Was the first one up, so broke trail the whole way - exhausting! Only saw one other person, who caught up to me near the summit.
Snowshoes are needed, people, it's still winter in the Whites. |
