 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One huge triple-trunked tree down at the brook crossing on Dagody Hill Loop. One small birch down on Balancing Rock Trail. This trail is also newly cut and easy to follow, but is not yet blazed. It is marked with blue flagging though. One section of Weir Road Trail is flooded by beavers but Hardy By-Pass gets around this. |

A mixed bag on these trails after the recent rains -- dry, wet and muddy. The woods along the western side of Dagody Hill Loop have been heavily logged since my last visit here, and a few new logging roads cross the trail. I started to head to the summit via one of these roads, but it quickly got pretty swampy and I didn't want to deal with it.
Balancing Rock Trail is listed as proposed on the town map, but it was signed at the start, easy to follow, and marked with flagging. It climbs over the shoulder of an unnamed hill to the west of Dagody Hill and descends to dead end at a balanced boulder in what looks like an old quarry. A neat spot.
Periodic snow, sleet and light rain during the hike, with only one other person encountered. |
