Really great hike, and the views and experience of being on Mt Isolation are super worth it. Rocky Branch stream is beautiful. Beautiful birch forest on Engine Hill.
Bring snowshoes! The trail's not that well-packed. Many people were postholing.
-You gain most of your height immediately, when you ascend to Engine Hill on the Rocky Branch Trail.
-Shortly after the sign indicating that you've entered the Dry River Wilderness, there's a right-angle turn for the bushwhack. I've heard it called the Engine Hill Bushwhack or Isolation Direct. This was very well broken out- we're grateful to everyone who did it this season. The trail is entirely unmarked from this point on- until right before the summit on Davis Path.
-Eventually you start following Rocky Branch Brook itself, and then cross it, and the continue toward the summit. The trail hooks back around left/south. You're now on Davis Path.
-Finally you'll see a sign indicating the spur trail toward the summit.
