Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fun day for the mighty tough little dog and Sadie. Plenty of water, snow to keep cool, and nice views. Met two other dogs, Rosie and Ronin, on the ridge.

Comments
Comments: We barebooted and then used spikes to the ridge, and then barebooted to Pierce and Eisenhower. Monorail in pretty good shape and supportive. On the hike down I switched to snowshoes below treeline after finding the monorail had been chewed up some, in some places it had become quite narrow with pockets of deep postholes trimming it. Sharon took a few spills trying to stay on the monorail in boots and eventually switched to snowshoes (which she carried thanks to Becca's report) and we picked up the pace considerably. Only Pepper could walk the sometimes tightrope the whole way.

We used snowshoes on the monorail and off where it had become too narrow, down to where the monorail hit numerous open drainages. We saw a fair number of people and had a few extended conversations with some very nice hikers, but not the kind of crowd such a beautiful day with light wind would normally generate. I don't recall seeing anyone else with snowshoes, but I'd still recommend carrying them. It's fun hiking in T shirts and snowshoes. This was a very leisurely hike by Pepper's standards, but all that time above treeline was worth it.
