Bottom half of the trail was nicely packed and firm. We wore micros to the start of the steeps. After that, snow was soft and snowshoes made the climb a lot easier than microspikes. Temps stayed cold enough today that I don't think it will firm up overnight, so expect soft snow. We descended via the ski trails, which made for a lot of slipping and sliding on powder-over-ice conditions. The Sosman Trail was a mess of post holes, soft snow, powder and anything else you can think of. It definitely could use some freeze-thaw weather to harden it up. |
