Comments
Comments: Saw a solo (2 of us chatted for a quick min) .9 mi to summit on opposite direction; a group of 2 and 5.
After very warm weather with rain and overnight cold freeze, this classic route came to full winter glory on spring day one with high wind and bluebird sky - super views all around!
For one very steep 150’ section, you def need right gears, especially descent b/c with hard ice it became a technical alpine climb.
I had petzl hybrid ice axe with hand hold and mix climb pick, b2+ mountaineering boot, grivel 10+2 steel crampon w new Matic tight binding...PLUS two long legs, lol

Normal hiking ice axe might help, but not enough, imho. Any slip on the 150’ section would not end well.
Overall, super day for mt washington. Loved it!
