snomoed Nash Stream Rd., snomoed West Side Rd., bushwhack
Walked 1 mile on snomoed Nash stream Rd to a bridge crossing leading to West Side Rd. Then followed snomoed West Side Rd. approx 3.5 mile to 1560' elevation where we started bw.
Bw directly W, in easy to moderate grades, to a col often using old woods roads. From col, bw directly to North Stratford avoiding the ridge crescent to the E. Easily found summit pill bottle. Register goes back to 2000. Pill bottle with child proof cap must be pressed down to open - difficult to do with cold hands. Followed tracks back to col.
Upon arriving in col, set bearing for South Stratford always traveling in wide open hardwoods a bit W of summit ridge. Hit scratchy bump NE of summit that we should have avoided by circling to the W. Easily found recognized summit. Followed tracks back N 0.4 mile to a col just S of 2333' bump. Bw SE to West Side Rd. in easy to moderate grades using woods roads where practical. Followed West Side Rd. and Nash Stream Rd back to car.
Often encountered blue blazes on ridge which we assumed indicated Nash Stream Forest boundary.
Outstanding views in all directions at different points on the ridge.
bw surface conditions - fully supportive surface - no breaking with low flotation snowshoes
vegetation density - entire bw in wide open hardwoods, no tight spruce/fir, no sprucy areas
grades - always easy except for a few moderate stretches on ascent to, or descent from ridge to road.
