Dog-Related Notes: Easy hike for the mighty tough little dog. Cloud cover, light breeze and monorail kept him cool too. He liked lazing a bit on the Profile ledges.
Bugs
Bugs: None.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Blue washcloth on trail moved to obvious position just off it in case it belonged to an earlier hiker.

Comments
Comments: The snow/ice started around 2500' and in a short while became mostly continuous except for the main drainages. The monorail was somewhat soft but it generally supported boots, but I put the snowshoes on for traction on push offs, to stay on the monorail without pigeon toeing it and to avoid the occasional postholes on the trail. I kept them on until the rocky cone.

On the return I barebooted to the Profile rock lookout but it was conmparatively slow walking the narrow monorail tightrope, so I put snowshoes back on for the descent until after 3200' when bare patches led me to switch to microspikes until around 2500 when it was bareboots. There weren't many others on the trail, all barebooting with one using microspikes, some postholing. I met two up high, and 5 were going up pretty late in the am and had the casual summer hiker outfitting look. It clouded up and sprinkled on us above treeline briefly, but cleared later and was pretty nice when we got out, although that meant some clouds were building.

Given the forecast I had told Pepper to check things out in the morning and wake me up if it was nice. He didn't so we got a late start, and chose this short hike. We lucked out on the weather (although it seems mountain forecasts have been very unreliable all winter into spring); and while the longer hike I thought of doing earlier in the week was doable today, this was a very nice one. Pepper's off the hook.
