 | Water Crossing Notes: |
First crossing at the trailhead still had a solid snowbridge today, several other minor crossing also snowbridged or easy hops, two crossings on the relocated section are both open with fast running water - crossing both requires submerging boots - for now I would I advise following the old section of the trail which avoids both of these crossings. |

I guess it has been a while since I was on this trail since I was unaware of the relocated section! Where the trail used to turn uphill it now heads across Champney brook. This first crossing is on submerged rocks with fast moving water - boots are going to get wet but my gaiters helped keep the water out. Second crossing was even more treacherous with open water and again requiring submerging boots. Many had bushwacked further up along the brook trying to find an easier point to cross. I would recommend using the older trail section with avoids both of these crossing as most did today. As you approach the crossing you will see an arrow directing you across the brook. For those not familiar the old trail it heads up a bank to the right 10 yards or so before the crossing. There is a solid track to follow along this section. Trail bed was solid with wet/sticky snow on top so snowshoes aren't needed at least up the falls. Light traction was nice just to keep from slipping and sliding but you'll want something with anti-balling plates. Falls were quite impressive today, there were a number of ice climbers out enjoying the day. |
