Comments
Comments: Nice hike from this New Hampshire 500 Highest peaks. From our parking location we headed started bushwhacking north then turning east avoiding a nearby house and running into four deer as we set off to hit Ames Mountain.

We keep moving east in nice woods, very little snow, turned southeast, popped out into some previously logged areas with new growth, crossed several older woods roads with picker bushes. They’re a pain in the ass! After a short distance and about 1000 feet of elevation we picked up an old wood’s road heading in our direction. We followed it southeast, hit a switches back that turned us northeast the back to southeast, keep following to about 1650 feet of elevation.

A that point this woods road was dropping a bit, so we started bushwhacking east in nice woods, still not much snow, soon picked up a much older woods road and followed it of a bit before we jumped off turning more southeast as we started to see sign of moose. Previously there was tons of deer sign. We keep moving and soon enough we hit the recognized high point and signed in. I’ve been looking at the hike for some time now and look at my InReach google earth I notice a few bogs to the northeast and east of these summits.

With that said I’m thinking there’s got to be moose over there, so we set off heading northeast following the ridge northeast. As we dropped we started seeing lots of moose activity and unfortunately the snow was gotten pretty deep and we left our snowshoes in the truck. We keep exploring for a bit and decided to head north towards the col between summits. We continued down to the col, bushwhacked between some ledge area on the col to our west and a swamp to our east. Once out of that area we headed towards the north running ridge of Currier Hill.

Things got really steep really fast as scrambled through rock outcrops / ledge area. That was fun and soon things leveled off and we hit the recognized high point and signed in. We set off back down that scramble. Once past we turned southwest running along the other side of the col to explore there, dropping down still heading southwest and soon hit that old woods road we came up on making it a nice loop in this upper area.

From here we just returned to the truck clocking in 4.5 miles and 1750 feet of elevation gain. +/-
