| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at 19MBT lot (plowed). 3 other cars at 7 AM. Lot almost comfortably full (but not jam-packed) about 2:30. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow - Spring Snow |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction, Traction, Ice Axe |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
No issues. Some open drainages on 19 MBT, all easily crossed. Miscellaneous crossings are snow bridged. Larger crossings are wooden bridged. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Signage okay. No major blowdown issues, but a few leaners and duck unders here and there. No crawl-unders. Blazing on 19MBT okay (but is it the right shade of blue for an AT side trail?); a few more, strategically-placed white blazes on the WRT might be helpful. |

| Comments: |
19MBT firm and easily microspiked. Lower half had some icy sections, as well as a few small snow-free (rocky and wet) spots. Upper half had a dusting of new snow. I opted for crampons and ice axe (yes, I am old school) on WRT, due to firmness and steep terrain - I appreciated the extra security, especially in the slide area(s)(which had a reasonable shelf for the trail today). Due to firm snow surface, steep terrain, in some places steep trail and limited width of packed trail, and divots and postholes from warm-weather barebooters, snowshoeing would be a bit challenging - but that may be the best option (vs. postholing to your knees) when the trail eventually softens. Nice to meet Rick B and company on the summit. |
