The trail was well-packed throughout and only softening a bit with the warmth at noon. Lots of snow cover still. Above Gem Pool it has been butt slid/sledded but spikes were adequate to the hut and beyond. We switched to crampons at the hut and, with the consistent cover, took a direct line from the hut to the summit ridge in the strong winds. Then back to spikes at the hut so as not to hinder the trip/ride down. :) Several people added Washington to their trips without issue besides the wind.
Congratulations to Chris on finishing her W48 on Monroe! Also to Rick S., a short distance ahead for finishing his. Great to meet and chat with James Vincent. Stunning day. |
