Comments
Comments: Mixed late winter conditions. Temps ranged from 20 to 60 degrees. The entire Hale - Zealand - Bonds traverse could be done in spikes. All trails were firm with frozen granular or packed powder. Around noon when temps moved above freezing the trail beds softened considerably. Snow clumped on spikes and boots often sank into the trail bed and inch or so. We switched to snowshoes coming off Bondcliff until the Lincoln Woods bridge to save the trail from post holing and to make better time.
