 | Comments: |
Shoulder season is here. The first third of the trail was mostly an icy footbed transitioning to ice monorail, with a few bare spots that are about to emerge. Snowpack increases soon thereafter, reaching 1 to 2 feet. Snow was still soft between the first two viewpoints, as well as on the loop. I wore snowshoes roundtrip, but spikes would be adequate to the first viewpoint in current above freezing temperatures; they could be outmatched though when temperatures dip below freezing and the ice hardens.
Beautiful April-like afternoon with temperatures in the upper 50s. |
