 | Trails: |
Hancock Notch Trail, Cedar Brook Trail, Hancock Loop Trail |
|
 | Date of Hike: |
Sunday, March 8, 2020 |
|
 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Two other cars when I started, and a full parking area when I got back. Maybe a few more spots will pop up as the snowbanks melt. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Drifts, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
All easily crossed by ice bridge or rock hop. The ice bridges' days are probably numbered with all this mild weather, though. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few duck-under blowdowns, but no issues otherwise. One in particular between South and North Hancock can be tricky to go under if you're tall and/or have a big pack. |

 | Comments: |
Aside from some scattered postholes and very minor drifting along the Hancock Loop, the trails were smooth and packed solid. Barebooted to the loop junction, at which point I switched to light traction and kept it on for the rest of the hike. The snow was starting to soften and get a little sticky toward the end of the hike, but snowshoes still would've been overkill. Might not be the case as the week goes on, though. |
