Room for several cars roadside at trailhead on Stearns Rd in Wilmot. VERY rutted road - I have 4WD but was still sliding all over the place. |

A very large fir tree blowdown across the trail less than 5 minutes from the trailhead. Herd paths forming, but, very annoying tree. |

Terrific afternoon quick hike. Trail was about 1/3 bare ground/rocks/dirt and 2/3 very firm snow with some ice down lower. I just wore trail runners and was very comfortable. OK - that sounded weird - I actually wore hiking clothes too, hahaha. When snow softens, it will posthole. Traction not a bad idea but I was fine without (I carried microspikes). Outstanding views, of course. This is a favorite little hike of mine - big bang for the buck. |
