A stunner of a bluebird day on this fantastic 52WAV peak after a leisurely 10am start. Snow depths are minimal and many rocks are poking through, so spikes were best today. Also a few ice bulges here and there. I saw one person in snowshoes but I think they would have been more of a hindrance due to the poor cover. The trails were solid with some softening in sunny areas. Since this is a south-facing trail, there were also many areas of bare ground. There are some of those posthole things near the summit, but it is what it is and they don't take away from the enjoyment.
It was actually quite warm (almost too warm) in the woods with the sun as the peak itself shields the wind, but once on top I was getting pushed around a bit which made for a brief stay. Not crazy cold, though. Fantastic views today in the clear air, and several other folks were out as well. |
