Comments
Comments: Firm snow ideal for microspikes, could probably bareboot to hut if careful in a few icy spots. Snowshoes not needed on trail and could be a hindrance on middle section of hike due to narrow trough. Above col was a nasty cliff section that seemed to keep getting longer, at some point I decided I didn't want to go down it alone without real crampons and kept going up. Probably only 100 vertical feet but you might have slid the whole way. Normally I would bypass it in the woods but they looked icy and steeper. Went down Kinsman Ridge Trail to Tramway, although I have hiked this trail several times I wouldn't have found the upper part without recent tracks - thanks people! As mentioned elsewhere a few tricky spots mostly crossing ski trails where you could slide a long way, but much easier than going up and I made it okay. Bike path could have been bare-booted with a few icy spots but I left the spikes on.

With some rain followed by a hard freeze, this mountain could become a giant ice cube and you would want ice tools to go with the crampons.
