We parked at the Basin, used the bushwhack up to Liberty Spring trail and did an out/back to Liberty & Flume. We used spikes until 0.3 miles from the tent site then used snowshoes the rest of the day. The trail is well packed (including the bushwhack) but once you get above the tent sites there are places where it was blown in with maybe 4" of snow. There is still a firm base underneath but I think snowshoes are preferable at least for the ridge. The weather was warm enough that even the packed trail was on the verge of getting a bit slushy lower down in the afternoon. CONGRATULATIONS TO AL PARZYCH FOR FINISHING HIS SINGLE SEASON WINTER 48 ON FLUME TODAY. HIS ACCOMPLISHMENT IS EVEN MORE IMPRESSIVE GIVEN HE HAS A MINIMUM 2 HOUR DRIVE JUST TO GET TO THE WHITES! |
