Comments
Comments: What a great spring-like day in the Belknaps today. The trails offered up every type of condition you could imagine today. Old Stage Road was firm packed and icy from snowmobile traffic. Thank you to the snowmobile club for building a nice new bridge on Old Stage Road addressing the beaver flooding issues. Anna-Goat Trail was mixed bare ground, ice and snow as was the BRT from Anna to Marsh Crossing. Marsh crossing had a bit more snow but we did fine without snowshoes on it. From West Quarry down to the Quarry-Rand col was more of the same. We put snowshoes on in the col and kept them on until back on the Anna-Goat Trail. Snowshoes were absolutely needed on these lesser traveled trails. We broke trail up Rand and then over to Klem and on to Mack. No signs of recent traffic between Klem and Mack or heading down to Round Pond from Klem. Some old boot tracks heading down to Round Pond from Mack. The trail between Mack and Anna(BRT) was recently used but still very soft, snowshoes necessary. Lots of ice coming down from Rand towards Klem on the steep ledges. We had to bushwhack around the worst of it.
