Started at Diana’s Bath parking, headed up North Moat in spikes, which worked fine. Switched to snowshoes after North summit and wore them until about a mile from the trailhead on Passaconaway Rd. heading down South Moat. From North Moat to Middle, powder was 8-12 inches deep, and the trail is definitely not well broken out. Only a couple people have passed thru since the last storm. Trail near the top of South Moat is a frozen post-hole mess, and meanders away from the true path, so watch your ankles.
Grateful to the folks who left tracks for me to follow from North Moat across the ridge, though I imagine they might have had more fun in snowshoes. Trails are in pretty weird condition in the area - frozen crust down low, powder up higher. Rising temps this week - would recommend snowshoes if it warms up, even on lower parts of South and North Moat trails. |
