Comments
Comments: FP “needed” Tecumseh for his over 65 Grid and kindly agreed to descend the back, Tripoli side so I didn’t die of boredom on the frontside.

He wore spikes up to the summit; I barefooted which worked just fine. We were pleasantly surprised to see an older set or two of tracks leading off the summit towards Tripoli. The trail is beautiful and because of the previous hikers tracks, we didn’t have to navigate. (There are a couple of head-scratching, open hardwood sections where the trail is not evident.)

At about 2600’ we left the trail & took a more or less direct beeline to Tripoli Road. The bushwhacking was amazingly easy & gorgeous. We sank only 3-4” over an incredible, supportive base. (Winter rain does have some benefits!) We hit the road about 1/4 mile west of Thornton Gap & made quick work back to our car at Livermore TH. (Our friends drove all of us to parking lot #1 at Waterville Valley and did the first part of the hike. Otherwise, it would have been a short bushwhack from Tripoli Road to parking lot #1, which I have done before.)

Love doing Tecumseh this way in winter!
