| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking was filling up fast at Lafayette Place. Snuck into one of the few open spots around 8:45 AM. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Drifts, Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
No major crossings, and any minor ones either had a footbridge across them or were ice bridged. Might change with the incoming mild temps, though. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Several blowdowns along the route, particularly on the Kinsman Ridge Trail. Most of them were duck-unders, but I had to go on all fours to get by a couple of them. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
No dogs allowed in the Lonesome Lake Hut. No other red tape that I'm aware of. |

| Comments: |
The Lonesome Lake Trail to the shoreline of Lonesome Lake was like a sidewalk- I comfortably wore light traction for this stretch. Put on the snowshoes at the hut and kept them on for the hike over to the two peaks and back to the hut, as the Fishin' Jimmy and Kinsman Ridge trails weren't completely hard packed, and the latter had quite a bit of drifting. Switched back to light traction at the hut for the last leg back to Lafayette Place.
Two more down for the Winter 48! |
