Comments
Comments: This was my first time up Hi-Cannon and I'm not certain I will do it again in the winter. The summit was beautiful and totally worth the effort; however, there were a number of areas on the Hi-Cannon trail where I wished I had brought an ice axe, and an area where there was some wooden steps that felt downright terrifying. Hi-Cannon had not been stepped on in some time and I switched from microspikes to snowshoes about mid-way up. The views along the ridge were amazing; however the path was very steep and slippery and required constant vigilance until I got passed the wooden steps.

I was planning on using the Kinsman Ridge to get over to North and South Kinsman; however, the descent from Cannon on the Kinsman Ridge Trail was steep and not broken out at all. It was dicey getting down that trail and when I got close to the bottom I saw that others had attempted to climb it using snowshoes and had turned around. As I began my ascent up the Kinsman Ridge Trail towards the Cannon Balls, the blowdowns became more frequent and it became clear that I wasn't going to be able to ascend with the equipment I had with me. Once I got back to the Lonesome Lake Trail, hiking got substantially easier, and by the time I was at Lonesome Lake, the path was practically manicured. From Lonesome Lake down, microspikes would have been a nice option but the trail probably could be done with just hiking boots,
