 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked in pullout area to the right about .1 mile from gated end of Cook Hill Road, just before road starts to descend. The dirt sections of Mason Road are showing some deep ruts from the warmer temps and rain of a few days ago. This made for some treacherous driving once the snow had started to accumulate. Also Cook Hill Road is basically 1-1/2 cars wide with only a few turnouts due to snowbanks. We lucked out going both directions; did not meet any other cars! |

Unmaintained continuation of Cook Hill Road, unnamed trail
Followed the directions to the trail head provided by Beth Z: Perfect! Walked the remainder of Cook Hill Road, using micro spikes as the road had a thin coating of crusty ice. Continued past the gate following the road and a packed out pathway to a clearing. Continued a short ways up the hill before taking a left onto a trail heading more towards the summit. Well packed out although not used in a few days. Moderate continuous clim to first bump then crossed the open field in a direct line to the summit. Easily located the beginning of the unofficial orange flagged trail to the top. Moose postholes started about .25 miles from the summit, crossing back and forth as well as using the trail. Followed the trail to the summit ledges and a bit beyond. Snowing like crazy so decided to head back the way we came rather than continue on the unpacked out loop. Good thing as our footsteps had all but disappeared in spots, especially in the open field. Passed some hikers with a dog near the base. Nice hike! |
