Comments
Comments: There is no X-skiing nor snowmobiling going on near the Balsams, and the snow was deep and dense, so the trail breaking was a bit more tedious and slow than we had imagined it would be. We headed W'ly first towards Abeniki, using the former X-ski trails. If you look at a map, the trails circle around Keazer Mountain ridge. Trails are obvious when on the ground. At a junction just west of the peak we began our bushwhack through nice woods to the top.

Trail breaking was slow going, so rather than complete a loop around Keazer Mountain as planned, we backtracked towards the car using our already broken out trail. We then proceeded N'ly along old X-Ski trails, hoping to intersect with what we thought was a snowmobile trail. But there was no snowmobiling... so we broke out the roads/trails to a natural leaping off point, (high point of the road just SW of the peak), then bushwhacked to the summit. Returned the same way.

While the mileage was a bit longer than the more standard "loop" hike, we all agreed that we saved ourselves some energy by not doing as many miles of trail breaking.

Nice time in the woods with Bill C., Schorman, Fran M. and JEM3.
