Trails below treeline packed out nicely--Very easy going up and down.
Above treeline some expected drifting and spots of black ice here and there. Wore snowshoes car to car but was definitely a handful of spots on ridge where spikes or full crampons were the proper choice. Wind was ripping and took it slow and the snowshoes worked---FWIW worked out with some of the drifting in the cols between the peaks. If I walked it again immediately would probably throw on the crampons around the hut and take the few posthole chances to navigate the ice patches a bit quicker.
Beautiful day on Franconia Ridge |
