Comments
Comments: The forecast was for skies to clear and windy conditions but we were basically in the clouds from the summit of Madison until we dropped onto the Randolph Path on our way down. Two of us and then a third starting at Adams, wore snow shoes all day. Valley Way and then Madison and Adams could maybe be done in spikes but snow shoes were so much easier and effective, especially with the drifting.

Above tree line, it’s a mix of hard packed snow, snow and snow drifts. There is not much exposed rock other than heading up the summits. Lots of completely buried cairns on Gulfside heading to Jefferson. We descended to Appalachia by the Randolph Path starting at Edmunds Col. Once in the trees, the snow was deep, sinking to at least knee depth on each step even with snow shoes. Certainly glad we were going downhill! This was a really fun day and a great way to spend Presidents Day.
