 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at Zealand winter parking lot on Route 302. Plenty of room today. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
The two crossings of Hale Brook were well snow-and-ice bridged. A few open or almost-open drainages, all easy to cross. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Signage okay; Lend A Hand Trail sign on summit still above the snow. Trail corridor seemed well brushed. Blazing could use some freshening/augmenting/brushing (boughs obscure some blazes). IIRC one or two step-overs and one detoured-around blowdown about 3300 feet. |

 | Comments: |
Zealand Road had a firm, bare-bootable track, though skiing might have been good on the 1/2 inch of new snow (track is too narrow and irregular for skate-skiing). A soft, but good snowshoe track on Hale Brook Trail. The birch traverse (sidehill below the second brook crossing) was not too bad, though there were a few deep divots. Given the forecast for more snow tomorrow, all this info may change significantly. |
