In the morning I was greeted with one to two inches of new snow over well packed trails. The underlying footbed was supportive but just a bit soft. I started with Hillsound spikes on the ski trail but they were less than optimal so I switched to snowshoes and left them on for the rest of the day. This was by far the best choice especially with the warm-ish temps. Everyone else I encountered was wearing their snowshoes today - except two barebooters on the ridge in the afternoon chipping up the trails.
I didn't see anyone until about half way up Twinway where some folks were coming down. I probably saw about 15 others at various points on the ridge today. No views anywhere except from the hut on the way out...but on the plus side there was near zero wind - a trade I'll make any winter day. I got to North Twin a full five minutes before my turn-around time :) From there floated the idea to a small group to descend North Twin Trail to Seven Dwarfs and get a ride back to Beaver Brook from them but that was declined so I went with Plan A as an out and back. It was quiet in the afternoon so I had a lot of time to myself on descent. |
