Comments: Parked at the Cog - well worth $10 for warmth and a bathroom break before we set out.

Fantastic clear (cold) day starting out with great views of Washington and surrounds. Despite recent snow, Ammonoosuc was well packed. We used snowshoes up to Lake of the Clouds and ascended Monroe with them (which was quite icy - crampons may have been a better choice), and switched to crampons for descent of Monroe and on to Crawford Path.

Got off track onto the Davis Path briefly which was less packed - we were postholing until we switched back to snowshoes. I switched to crampons for the Washington ascent and the other two did the whole thing in snowshoes. Saw a few people doing it in microspikes, luckily it wasn't a vey windy day. Crawford had been somewhat packed by a guided group ahead of us which we were very grateful for!

Clouds descended on the summit so we spent maybe 10 minutes there in the cold fog before descending along the cog, following the footprints of someone who had ascended the same way recently. Snowshoes helped the descent but it was pretty doable with crampons - I post-holed a few times but enjoyed the added security on the few icier sections. There haven't been many Monroe/Washington reports lately but the employees at the Cog said they had been busy the past couple weekends (though not all hikers I assume). We saw a group of skiers along the cog as we made our way down - looked like they were enjoying themselves too.
