Comments
Comments: The cog was broken out by skiers to Jacob's Ladder. Above the ladder most areas were wind-scoured, with only modest side-sloping. Gulfside had only modest snow drifts and was mostly wind-scoured, with areas of exposed rocks. The conditions were similar on Jefferson Loop. (I wore snowshoes for much of the hike, but spikes would have been better from Westside to the Jefferson summit.) Jewell trail above treeline had more drifting, but also areas of wind scoured snow and exposed rocks. Sections were difficult to follow. Below treeline, Jewell was a winter wonderland, with about five inches of powder over a firm snowshoe track. I had taken my snowshoes off, but put them back on at the clearing below treeline, down to the Cog lot.
