Comments: Flat Mountain 3331' (attempt)

I had originally planned to reach the Flat Mtn summit via the Fletcher Cascades trail but opted to continue on the nicely groomed 'Drakes Brook XC' path which splits left at the Drakes Brook trail leading to Jennings, then passes the Fletcher Cascade trail junction within a hundred yards or so. Following the XC path, which made for fast travel, I set my first waypoint at 1800' approx, jumping into the bushwhack at this point. My second waypoint was placed at 2800' following the ridge that runs up between the cascades to the south and a northerly secondary drainage leading down to Snows Brook.

Bushwhack: The snow was a foot deep with a 4 inch layer of hard icy crust. This made for slow going. I reached 2700'when I decided to turn back... a number of reasons, but first and foremost the temps as well as the time of day. From this turnaround point, the Flat summit is approx 1.2 miles of additional snow breaking. I'll most likely head back in a day or two to finish unless someone beats me to it. Have at it!
