The day started out with snow flurries when i left the Beaver Brook lot and mostly in the clouds at Galehead and the Twins. Skies cleared around 12:30 and I sat in the sun on the porch at the Hut for lunch before heading to Garfield. I barebooted to the hut, put spikes on there for the climb up to S Twin and they stayed on for the rest of the day. The Garfield Ridge trail from the Gale River jct to Garfield was very choppy from bareboot travel. It actually wasn’t bad and nice to have steps in some places. I think snow shoes would have been more of an annoyance to wear on this section and I didn’t use them (or have them). Light winds and some amazing views from the summit of Garfield. |
