Comments
Comments: The initial portion of the Stony Brook Trail (from the bridge to the water crossing) was a little bony, but still fine with snowshoes. Much better thereafter. Fortunately the last users on Stony Brook also wore snowshoes, so the track was pretty smooth (we did our best to fix some of the postholes left by the previous day's Microspikers). About a foot of snow down low, increasing to perhaps two feet at the ridge (crustier down low). Nothing particularly firm; booting, especially in above freezing temperatures, would beat this up quickly.

Some tracks heading southbound on Carter Moriah; none on Moriah Brook. Carter Moriah Trail had full snow cover (including the ledges), generally two to three feet deep. Snowshoes were ideal. The last steep had a small section of blue ice, but was otherwise fine and once again ideal with snowshoes. Looked like the Carter-Moriah Trail from Bangor Road was a masquerading Microspiker paradise.

For the return trip, we stuck with the abandoned trail (one set of old snowshoe tracks); probably decent packed out for snowshoes after our group of five went through.

Decent weather today with temps fairly mild down low and some sun on some of the ledges.

Please be leave the trail in equal or better shape than you found it by wearing snowshoes.
