| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Lincoln wide open for business. Stairs closed, so need to go the long way around to get to the bridge. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable) |
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction, Snowshoes |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Couple of tricky smaller ones on the Black Pond bushwhack where you need to pay attention to what's what underfoot before you commit. The big crossings are fully bridged but vaguely intimidating as things get warmer... and softer. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few blowdowns on the bushwhacks, but nothing problematic. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Laika loved every minute of it -- and sends her regards to Brutus with thanks for "discovering" the bushwhack. |

| Comments: |
Snowshoes got a free ride to the top and back -- microspikes all the way. Lincoln Woods and the start of Black Pond perfectly packed; parts of the Lincoln Brook trail and Brutus has some soapy smush on top of a solid monorail, but zero change of post holing. No ice on Brutus right now, so easy up and fairly safe down. Route is obvious the whole way -- only one point where someone tested an alternate path, but the "right" one is clearly more packed. Peak is a mess of tracks, and the summit itself not really obvious... Met a couple of great hikers at the peak, and a handful of back country skiers negotiating Black Pond on the way back, otherwise only traffic on Lincoln Woods. |
