We skied into Hale Brook trailhead, hiked up/back to Hale summit, then skied Spruce Goose and Zealand Trail into the Twinway jct and back via Zealand Rd. Ski conditions were surprisingly great! Although many of the stream crossings on the ski trail are open and difficult to step across with skis. There is enough snow to cover the rocks but not the streams and numerous bumps. Zealand Rd would be easy to bare boot. We used snowshoes on Hale Brook trail since it was unbroken with no trace of previous hikers. The long side slope half way up was loose enough that you wanted to be sure you didn't slip but not any real problem. No ice on the trail. |
