 | Water Crossing Notes: |
On our first crossing, we successfully crossed on a beaver dam and then on several luckily chosen tufts of grass that we hoped were mounds of earth. I wasn't so lucky on the return crossing where I slightly wandered off the beaver dam and promptly sank in to my calves.
The brook was flowing freely below the dam, and we didn't dare attempt a crossing of the wide marsh above the dam.
Our crossing point is obvious on a topo map where the brook suddenly narrows. |

 | Comments: |
From the car we proceeded on the access road to the restaurant and then on a logging road going south. At approx 1700' we started our bw going SW and soon hitting a major snomo trail going East/West. We followed this trail West for a short while before turning south to the brook crossing. Once across the brook we headed SW a short while until we hit the NW ridge of the mountain. We followed this ridge until the ridge top and then followed a long summit ridge to its southern end and the recognized high point.
breaking conditions, in high flotation snow shoes: very good - 1-8" on a supportive crust. Snow depth appears to be thin below the crust.
grades - mostly easy, some moderate
vegetation - mostly open woods, some whippy areas, a few spruce areas that could be a problem in deep snow |
