Comments
Comments: The Webster Jackson trail is broken out and solidly packed to the summit of Mt Jackson. Carried snowshoes, but only needed spikes today. Ice under the snow (from recent thaws) on the early steep pitches, and again on the way up the summit, make traction essential. Also, on the 1st of 3 steep sections about .4 mile in, a side detour to the right appears to go wide and avoid the ice slope. Ignore! It dead-ends after a few hundred ft. Looks well used since everyone who tries it comes back the same way. Deepest off-trail powered was about 1.5 ft on the upper section of Jackson. Today the temps were mild, the trail solid, and the trees covered with snow. Perfect January hiking!
