Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: On the descent, a large dog came running at me from above, barking and growling aggressively. Fortunately it did not attack, although it sure looked like it was going to. The dog eventually turned and ran back up the trail. No signs of the owner, but I assume the animal belonged to the owner of the Volvo with Vermont plates, which was the only other car parked at the trailhead. If the owner reads this - you need to control your dog better, for its own safety, to say nothing of courtesy to other trail users.

Comments
Comments: The trail was in great shape, pretty firm and grippy, dry snow. I went with bare boots up to about 2500 feet, then switched to snowshoes as I was running into pockets of windblown snow. Crawford summit was windblown, with some deep drifts and some bare rock. I kept snowshoes on for the whole descent, for better grip and also for grooming purposes, but bare boots would likely have been fine too.

Crawford summit was truly magical. Bluebird sky, not a breath of wind, totally silent, great day except for the aggressive dog.
