Comments
Comments: Avalon trail was in great shape and snow shoes or micros are fine. The snow was stable enough that the micros didn't ruin the trail.
Willey range was a bit mushy and had several sections of wind blown drifts. I met a gentleman on Field that joined me over to Willey and we lost the trail just after the midpoint clearing.
We both spent about 10 minutes trying to locate the trail as it was totally covered with drifts. We met several other hikers that came up behind us and after we all went back to Field, the trail is once again in good condition. I would still recommend snowshoes between Field and Willey. 2 Hikers crossed after us with micros but postholed in several sections.
