| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Ravine Lodge Rd is plowed to the gate. It is then a mile or so road walk to the trailhead on a plowed road. NH 118 to access Ravine Lodge Rd is interesting. I travelled from NH 112 onto NH 118. I think I left my axle on that road. It is paved, chock full of frost heaves and steep. I have no idea how a plow can clear this road with all the potholes and pavement buckles, but it was plowed, salted and sanded. Good job DOT/Forest Service crew! |

Popular, well travelled trail for the ascent of Moosilauke. The trail was broken out from the trailhead to the summit. Thanks to everyone who wore snowshoes- this will really help to establish the monorail. Only two persons of the 10 out on the mountain were wearing spikes (grrrr...). Despite freezing temps and recent snow, the snow is still soft. Snowshoes are the correct footwear.
I saw no blazes on Gorge Brook. Signs are at each junction, are clear and in good shape. Many are painted in orange increasing their visibility. Thanks for such good work on these!
Super windy, super cold at the summit. This trail does go above tree line but for only about 100 yards. There are a few large carins marking the trail above tree line that are visible. We had no issues seeing the summit today due to bright, clear, blue skies. There was a small amount of ice between the rocks above tree line but not enough to warrant a change of footwear (above tree line is not steep, nor does it have exposed ledges so ice really isn’t an issue anyway). |
