 | Comments: |
we walked the plowed french hill extension to a split where the plowed way continues left and we turned right and continued east. there was nice broken snowshoe track for a bit then we continued breaking trail in 6+ inches of new powder along the road up towards the saddle between the chickwolnepy peaks. at a likely spot we turned up and bushwhacked to the summit of the south peak in whippy woods. snow depth varied in spots, but generally plentiful powder over a base. we then went into the saddle with the main peak and continued up in good open woods to the highpoint. from there we took a line at the saddle with bald and dropped down in open woods into a large logged out area. from there we picked up a prominent road running north east around bald until we could get up onto the east ridge of the mountain. some soggy logged woods low then good open going along the ridge until just below the summit. new snow depths up to 10 inches higher up. the final pitch to the highpoint was steep and a little tricky, but there is a fairly obvious good line. a bit of blowdown right around the highpoint. we returned in our tracks to the logged area south of bald, used a west running road for a few minutes then did a short bushwhack to cut off a corner to gain a logging road running south. at a T junction we turned west across a washed out old bridge/culvert and followed this road back to french hill extension and out. |
