Peaks Mt. Passaconaway, NH
Trails
Trails: Dicey's Mill Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Monday, January 20, 2020
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Lot was plowed but choppily in places - presumably due to cars parked at the time of the plowing (cf. recent Whiteface trail report). No other vehicles there in early AM, about 8 in mid-afternoon.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Unpacked Powder
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The one crossing has a sturdy birch trunk across it, but getting across on snowshoes can be awkward for the balance-challenged. The stream is sort-of rock-hoppable, but with some wet snowshoes.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One duck-under softwood a little above the Dicey's/East Loop junction, and one easy step-over birch on one of the switchbacks above. Signage seemed okay.

Comments
Comments: Broke trail - about 4 to 6 ish inches of powder on a firm base - up to Rollins Trail, where I was passed by two people without snowshoes. They stopped at the summit spur. I broke to the summit and to the east (Walden Trail) view. Two others with snowshoes followed, so trail is well tracked, though still soft and needing snowshoes. A little bony here and there - some rocks just under the surface snow still apparent in various locations, especially on the last few steep bits. Final rock and ice ledge near the summit was awkward, but manageable in snowshoes. Wore snowshoes up and back; carried crampons and microspikes, but never used them.
