Comments
Comments: Wore snowshoes all the way and would urge others to do the same. Took Avalon and A-Z up to Tom summit; slow going, breaking trail the whole way. At least 6 inches of new powder everywhere made the steep sections a bit of a haul. Willey Range Trail over to Willey summit was similarly difficult. Lots of knee-deep and thigh-deep drifts. Narrow sections just south of Field summit were soft and a bit sloppy; hard to keep from sliding down the side. Didn't see anyone else until I was on the way back from Willey summit. From then, saw at least 10 people on Willey Range and back down Avalon. Most in snowshoes but 5 or so in spikes only which chewed things up a bit. Seemed like I was the first to descend Avalon (though it was broken), and I basically skied down in the soft snow. Light snow started to come down around noon, so maybe we'll get to do it all over again this week!
