| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at the temporary "hikers parking" designated area, with room for a dozen cars, though I was the only one hiking on Friday, apparently. If you must know, it's located at 44.498670, -71.339268, but easy to find on the left side of the road as you drive in. Took about 25 minutes to walk up to the Bunnell Notch Trailhead proper. The road itself was cleared, but hardpack snow with ice, and slippery in places both for tires and boots. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Lots of drainages on Bunnell Notch, mostly just annoyances, except one larger crossing with healthy flow rate lower down on the trail which required a diversion south of the trail over an iced-over set of rocks. Careful foot placement required (not much margin for error) gives this one a "medium" on the sketch factor, until true ice bridges form and make this a non-issue. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Plenty of small and mostly non-noteworthy stepovers. |

| Comments: |
Broke trail out/back to Cabot summit via Bunnell Notch Tr. Snowshoes for the duration, except bareboot for the roadwalk. At least 6" of fresh loose powder with upwards of 12" with drifts higher up towards the cabin. It was a cold one, with temps below zero for the duration of the hike. Trail from cabin to summit was a little hard to follow (trail corridor is not that obvious) but with a somewhat packed base under the fluff, as well as fresh blazes, it was followable. A peaceful if chilly hike in the north country. |
