Nice out/back on KRT to Cannon summit. Nice to run into Dorothy and chat about trail maintenance, as well as Hiker Ed (again) and his crew. Never a dull moment in the Whites.
Snowshoes door to door for me, though the trail was either in good shape or postholed/choppy, depending on which group you were in front of or behind. Most of the way up was packed and smooth, most of the way down was chopped up by bozos who started later with no snowshoes. The overall bozo-nobozo ratio seemed about 2-1 which is average for this popular location. Slabby sections were covered with snow and I didn't have any problem with ice. Note the shelflife of this report is 6 hours with the upcoming storm. That said, there's a good packed based forming which will hopefully endure, at least for a little while. |
