| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Ravine Lodge Road is plowed and sanded. Hiker lot is about 1 mile up - head on or angle parking (pursuant to signs), not parallel. Nevertheless, a bunch of Massachusetts vehicles parked parallel today, cutting the parking capacity in half. |

| Comments: |
Noted two Dartmouth signs that were not obeyed today: "Angle Parking Only" and "If you are hiking on foot, please stay off ski and snowshoe tracks."
Ravine Lodge Road roadwalk was plowed and therefore barebootable all the way to the lodge.
Starting on the trail below the lodge, there was a good foot or so of powder from recent storms. Trail was a little bony in the rocky section prior to the first Gorge Brook crossing, but snowshoes were still the best way to go. Above there to treeline, snowshoes or skis were ideal. A couple of people had chewed up the trail by descending on bareboots, but hopefully the carnage is cleaned up in advance of the storm.
Noted either a new or improved on trail viewpoint since my last visit, a little below treeline.
Treeline was a mixed bag, as there were a couple of drifts upwards of 5 feet deep, as well as extended stretches of rock and minimal snow. Did not note any ice of significance on this stretch.
Overcast skies with strong views and minimal wind this afternoon. |
