Comments: Started around 7:15 am and it was -5F. From the looks of the trail, I was the first one to head up. Crossings were nice and iced over - no issues. After the second "significant" crossing I put on snowshoes since I was starting to gain some elevation and the trail was becoming softer. Thank you to whoever broke trail to Tom and Field - it saved me the energy I needed to break trail to Willey :)

After the avalon trail/AZ trail jct there are two water crossings where the trail dips down and then heads up steeply - the second crossing had tracks where someone went the wrong way, heading down the stream. It looks like they headed back up part of the way and then climbed up steeply to get to the actual trail. I spent some energy breaking out a nice track up and around to the left just after crossing to follow the actual trail - but when I returned this way I found it torn to shreds with thigh high post holes where bare-booters tried to follow my tracks. C'est la vie.

Toward the Tom Spur snow drifted into the tracks and toward Field this turned to drifts. Clear skies over Tom and I was able to get to Field in time to see more clear skies and two grey jays. I headed over to Willey - only found myself off trail once in spite of the many, many drifts. With the snow tonight, it will most likely be filled in on Sunday. Views to the Presi's and down 302 were grand - the trail from the stairs was unbroken, as expected. I headed back, finally seeing the first people of the day on the summit of Field. Saw the cutest pup having fun with his human parents and everyone was having a wonderful time. Everyone wore smiles - it was simply a great day to be out.
